ATAR Calculator is an independent guide for Year 11 and 12 students, parents and anyone returning to study in Australia. We publish plain-language guides in three areas: the ATAR explained, covering what the ATAR is, how scaling works, how each state calculates it and common myths; study, covering timetables, exam preparation, exam stress and sleep; and after results, covering selection ranks and adjustments, reading course entry data, pathways and preferences. Our free study planner helps you split revision time and add adjustment points to an ATAR you already have.
Why we exist
This web address was once home to an independent ATAR estimator and study-tips site, which later closed. We have no connection to its operator. Official information about the ATAR is spread across several state admissions centres, each with its own rules and terms. We want to bring the essentials together in one place, in plain language, and point you to the official source for anything that matters to your application.
Why we don't predict ATARs
Despite our name, we don't offer an ATAR predictor. ATARs are calculated by the admissions authorities from each year's results and scaling, and SATAC, for example, explains that there is no accurate way to predict an ATAR in advance. Instead, our tools help you plan study and understand how selection ranks are built. Some admissions centres offer their own official estimation tools, such as UAC's ATAR Compass.
How we work
We write every guide in our own words. For facts, we rely on the official websites of UAC, VTAC, QTAC, SATAC and TISC, government health guidance and youth mental health services, and we list our sources on each page. We never invent statistics, cut-offs, scaling figures, prices, quotes or reviews, and we don't rank or recommend schools, tutors, universities or courses.
Independence
ATAR Calculator (atarcalculator.com.au) is an independent information site. We are not a tertiary admissions centre, curriculum authority, school, university, tutoring company or government body, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any organisation named on this site, any previous operator of this domain, or any organisation with a similar name.
General information only
Our guides are general information. Rules, dates and course requirements change every year and differ between states and institutions, so always check with your admissions centre, institution and school. If study stress is affecting your wellbeing, talk to someone you trust, your school counsellor or a GP.
